Augsburg College offers two distinct academic routes---the Day Program, which is for 鈥渢raditional鈥� students (i.e., those who have recently graduated from high school), and the Weekend College Program, for nontraditional (i.e., older) students. In each program, students find professors whose 鈥渜ualifications are excellent鈥� and who 鈥渁re readily available outside of class.鈥� Augsburg professors 鈥渄eserve a great deal of credit for creating an inviting, positive, thinking environment,鈥� and making the student experience feel 鈥渧ery personal.鈥� Many undergraduates believe one of 鈥渢he greatest strengths of Augsburg is that it offers internships and study abroad classes to every student. Augsburg tries to include at least one of these experiences in the major curriculum鈥� of each student.

At Augsburg, 鈥淢ost of the student population is from Minnesota, either rural or urban, and is mostly White.鈥� However, the school enjoys a 鈥渟omewhat diverse population with the StepUP program鈥� which enrolls students in recovery from chemical dependency. Augsburg also has a large population of 鈥淲eekend College students鈥� who are 鈥渢ypically upper twenties [and] into their thirties, married with kids and a full-time job. They are looking to get a degree to advance their career.鈥� In addition, Augsburg has a lot of 鈥渟tudents with disabilities.鈥� Students say that 鈥渂ecause of this diversity, there is always somewhere for someone to fit in.鈥� People are just 鈥渞eally friendly鈥� and 鈥渢end to be very respectful and helpful to one another.鈥�

鈥淏eing in the middle of Minneapolis provides so many opportunities for learning, recreation, and entertainment.鈥� Students at Augsburg enjoy the safety of a 鈥渟mall campus鈥� with 鈥渁ll the advantages of a big city [including] internships, and job placement after graduation.鈥� For off-campus fun, students 鈥渢ake the light rail downtown,鈥� or 鈥渃atch a game at the Metrodome.鈥� Back on campus, students appreciate that 鈥渁ll of the dorms are apartment-style living.鈥� To cut loose, 鈥淲e all go to the school-sponsored dances and have small parties on our own. School participation with organizations is a must. Everyone has something to do on a weekend night, and on nights that we have school the next day we all just hang out in the library.鈥� Intercollegiate 鈥渉ockey is a big sport, as is wrestling,鈥� with both drawing sizable crowds. A party scene exists but is not over the top; while small parties take place on campus, most bigger ones happen off campus 鈥渟ince Augsburg is so strict鈥� about its alcohol policies.
