01. Overview

What the school is known for:

Millikin University is a 鈥渟mall campus with a big campus vibe鈥 thanks to a department-wide performance learning approach that 鈥済ives you firsthand knowledge and experience that is absolutely vital in preparing for your future.鈥 Students can choose from a long list of areas of study, including 鈥渆xcellent music and business programs鈥 along with beloved nursing, theater, and education departments. After doing so, they鈥檒l put into practice 鈥渆very theory [learned] in class鈥 through internships and other field experience. These hands-on opportunities 鈥渁llow students to decide quickly if the major they are in is the right fit for them.鈥 As some students put it, 鈥測ou learn twice as much through trial and error.鈥 Between this and the opportunity to 鈥渕ake connections with future employers well before graduation,鈥 students get a lot of relevant professional experience. As an added bonus, the faculty are 鈥渄edicated to the growth and success of each individual student in the class,鈥 creating a supportive environment where you feel 鈥渃omfortable to ask them for help when needed.鈥

06. Student Body

What students say:

On the whole, Millikin students are 鈥渃ultured, diverse, and friendly.鈥 Individually, they 鈥渃ome from all walks of life鈥 and hold a 鈥渨ide range of personalities, majors, and attributes that make them all unique.鈥 Not only does this lead to an 鈥渆ncouraging environment for learning and creating,鈥 it also makes it 鈥渧ery easy to [form] meaningful relationships鈥 because attendees are 鈥渆xtremely open-minded.鈥 As such, 鈥渢he campus is LGBTQ+ friendly鈥 and 鈥淢illikin is a safe place to be whoever you really are.鈥 One student sums it up by saying, 鈥淚 do not know how we got so many nice people in one place.鈥 Clearly that鈥檚 not a complaint, though, and another goes on to state, 鈥淚 love the different, homey feel I get when I鈥檓 here and around friends.鈥

08. Campus Life

What students say:

At Millikin, 鈥渕ost people fill their days with classes and studying, either individually or with a group.鈥 And while many students commute to school, it still seems that many choose to 鈥渉ang out on campus and become involved.鈥 Because of that, 鈥渢here is always a bustling energy鈥 around the facilities, and students can be found 鈥済athering at popular locations like the new Commons building.鈥 Additionally, 鈥渆veryone is generally active with extracurricular activities,鈥 including athletics, clubs, Greek life, or band. As for those athletics, some note that it feels the school鈥檚 population 鈥渋s over half athletes,鈥 which makes attending sporting events and working out quite popular. Additionally, 鈥渙ur theatre and music majors are always dancing and singing throughout campus鈥 and 鈥渃reate lots of events for students to attend at the local pizza shop.鈥 Outside of official organizations, you can still find 鈥渢ons of things around campus to do, like games, movies, and crafts.鈥 When day turns to night, students enjoy 鈥済oing out to the downtown area or to the popular local bar,鈥 and on the weekends, 鈥渢here are parties to choose from nine times out of ten,鈥 according to one student.
