Just outside of Los Angeles, Pitzer College is a 鈥渟ocially responsible and progressive鈥� liberal arts and sciences college with 鈥済reat academics鈥� and 鈥渁ctive students鈥� and that 鈥渇eels like a second home.鈥� Students highlight 鈥渢he ability to create your own major,鈥� and 鈥渢he options and resources offered throughout the Claremont Consortium,鈥� which includes the ability to take classes at any of the other four Claremont Colleges. Because the school is so small, with an enrollment of around 1,200 undergrads, students feel they belong to a close and caring community: a place where 鈥減eople go to grow as individuals through liberal arts studies and through relationships that they build.鈥� Current students praise the school鈥檚 鈥渋nterdisciplinary focus and non-Western centric studies.鈥� Furthermore, students say they 鈥渓ove the academic support鈥� they receive at Pitzer, especially the professors, who are 鈥渨ell connected but incredibly caring.鈥� As one student puts it, 鈥淎ll my professors know me by name, even in introductory courses. [Instructors] all have PhDs from prestigious universities and demonstrate love for teaching.鈥� Experiential learning opportunities 鈥淸extend] far beyond the classroom to community service projects, the dorms, and abroad,鈥� and, because of the school鈥檚 size, students often get the chance to conduct research with their professors as well. 鈥淏y my second semester of my first year a professor offered me a research position,鈥� one student tells us, which 鈥渋s typical for many students since class sizes are small, so we get to create intimate relationships and have direct discussions with professors.鈥�
