Fuqua MBA students have the option to complete an MBA Concentration in Energy & Environment to gain specialized expertise in areas like corporate sustainability, environmental management, energy markets, and impact investing. MBA electives focused on sustainability include ?Climate Change, Sustainability, and Corporate Governance,? "Sustainable Operations," "Leading Business in a Complex World", "Business Sustainability Reporting and Analysis", and the ?EDGE Seminar on Energy & Environment,? in which MBAs have a unique opportunity to learn about today's most important energy and environment industry issues directly from senior business executives.

MBA students have a unique opportunity to research and publish content on Fuqua?s ?MBA EDGE? platform (www.mba-edge.com), an innovative publication database of primers on key sustainability, social impact, and clean energy topics, available publicly and written for an MBA student and practitioner audience. Fuqua MBA students have written papers for publication on topics such as ?The Circular Economy: What Every MBA Needs to Know? and ?Fashion & Sustainability: What Every MBA Needs to Know.? Through Fuqua's Client Consulting Practicum (https://sites.fuqua.duke.edu/fccp/), Fuqua students are also able to work on applied sustainability projects for real-world companies. Recent projects have included, for instance, an analysis of investments in nature-based solutions for an energy company, and, for a large grocery retailer, financial modeling of projects to reduce emissions across a portfolio of more than 2,000 stores.

1. Curriculum. Fuqua has a long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and fully supports Duke?s drive to be a truly sustainable institution. Duke?s Fuqua School of Business promotes environmental responsibility through degree programs and educational centers, interest groups and volunteer activities. Leveraging programs throughout the university, Fuqua offers the 3-year Master of Environmental Management/Master of Business Administration (MEM/MBA) and Master of Forestry/Master of Business Administration (MF/MBA) degrees. These are among the preeminent business and environment joint degree programs in the world. We also offer the MBA with concentrations in Energy and the Environment (for students to gain specialized expertise in corporate sustainability, environmental management and law, and energy science, policy, and entrepreneurship).

2. Extracurricular, Experiential, & Career Programming. Fuqua delivers a host of world-class extracurricular and experiential learning programs on environmental sustainability topics, including its annual Sustainable Business & Social Impact (SBSI) conference, the largest event of its kind in the Southeast. Students have the opportunity to work on sustainable business projects for real-world companies and NGO partners through the Fuqua Client Consulting Practicum program. Fuqua?s Center for Energy, Development and the Global Environment (EDGE) sponsors research, education, and industry engagement programs that benefit both students and industry, including hosting the ClimateCAP partnership, a consortium of 18 top business schools focused on the business risks and opportunities of climate change. Finally, students benefit from full-time dedicated career support professionals for sustainability and social impact careers in the Fuqua Career Management Center.

3. Campus Sustainability. The Fuqua campus also reflects our commitment to sustainability, with energy-efficient lighting and HVAC, as well as water-saving devices throughout. The 2017 renovation of Fuqua?s JB Duke Hotel included all new infrastructure to improve energy and water efficiency, sustainable construction and design, indoor environmental quality, and landscaping to reduce runoff.? Through the use of efficient transportation options and participation in waste reduction through single-stream recycling, pre-consumer composting, and use of reusable utensils, our students, faculty, and staff all contribute to lowering our school?s carbon footprint. Fuqua MBA students compete in a Sustainability Section Challenge each year, including events that encourage carpooling, biking to school, reducing paper usage, and bringing reusable cups to campus to reduce cafeteria waste.
